About the Prints

By default, all photographs are printed with a border around them. This is done to preserve the integrity of the composition. This allows you to custom matte and frame the picture without losing any of the photograph details. It is possible to print some pictures borderless. If that is your desire, then email me and we can evaluate if that works with the photograph and the size you are interested in.

I've chosen three methods to make prints: Chromira color and black and white prints, Giclée color and black and white prints, and Canvas Gallery Wraps. For color prints, I proof both Chromira and Giclée options based on each photograph and choose the method that preserves color the best (so that no color loss is experienced) for each individual color photograph. I pair the option to purchase color Giclée prints along with Chromira prints. It's another option for individuals who prefer or desire Giclée prints. This selection is translated into the print style that is presented to you when you purchase a print.

Chromira Prints

What is Chromira? The Chromira printer is a (somewhat) new-technology LED printer which prints directly onto photographic papers and films. It is manufactured by ZBE Inc. of Santa Barbara CA.

The Chromira color print has a thick paper with a glossy look and very rich colors. They are gorgeous prints, however the color gamut for this printing is only 8 bit. Thus, it has a shallow color range, which can pose difficulties with some scenes that have intense colors. For this reason, not every photograph on this webiste has the option to print using the Chromira process. Chromira prints are made using an LED light source, and then processed in RA-4 chemistry on Fujicolor Crystal Archive glossy professional photographic paper.

Black and white Chromira prints are made using an LED light source, and then processed in RA-4 chemistry on Fujicolor Crystal Archive matte professional photographic paper. This printing process was added as both a more economical choice and an alternative to Giclée black and white prints as described below.

Giclée Prints

What is Giclée? Giclée (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt of liquid. Giclée prints are created typically using professional 8-color to 12-color ink-jet printers.

Giclée color prints are made using Epson 9800/9900 printers on Lexjet Sunset Photo eSatin paper (Lustre Photo) (300 gsm) using Ultrachrome HDR inks. The color gamut for these prints are 16 bit and offer a wide color gamut. The Lexjet paper is a heavy, substantial photo paper, with excellent ink retention characteristics and a color gamut that is second to none. This paper maintains a traditional E surface finish, providing an elegant texture consistent to that of a dark room.

Giclée black and white prints are made using Epson's 11880 series printer on Hahnemühle Bamboo photographic paper (290 gsm) using Ultrachrome K3 inks. Bamboo the world’s first digital fine art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibers. Bamboo represents spirituality, naturalness and resource-saving paper production. Particularly suitable for warm-toned color and monochrome prints, Bamboo really highlights the sensuality of images.

Canvas Prints

Canvas Gallery Wraps offer a superb way to display photographs. What makes canvas wraps so popular is that they eliminate the need (and cost) of framing. The Canvas wrap is ready to hang on your wall, right out of the box. The photograph is printed on canvas and then wrapped around a 1.5 inch thick wood frame. Additionally, there are black wraps on both sides of the canvas emulating a black framed look. Laslty, the canvas wrap has a premium dust cover on the back. The dust cover includes a premium dust cover that covers the wooden frame on the back, bumpers to prevent the wrap from shifting on the wall, and the wire hanging hardware on the back to hang the wrap on a nail on the wall.

It is highly recommended that you frame the paper prints (with UV protectant glass) as soon as possible to protect the print from environmental variables. Additionally, hanging the phototgraph away from direct sunlight will prolong the life of the print and greatly reduce any color fading.
