About the Prints

By default, all photographs are printed with approximately a half inch border around them. This is done so that the printing process does not crop the photograph and ruin the integrity of the composition. This allows you to custom matte and frame the picture without losing any of the photograph details. It is possible to print some pictures borderless. If that is your desire, then email me and we can evaluate if that works with the photograph and the size you are interested in.

I've chosen three methods to make prints: Chromira, inkjet color, and inkjet black and white. For color, I proof both Chromira and inkjet options based on each photograph and choose the method that preserves color the best (so that no color loss is experienced)for each individual color photograph. This selection is translated into the print style that is presented to you when you purchase a print.

The Chromira print has a glossy look with very rich colors. They are gorgeous prints, however the color gamut for this printing is only 8 bit. Thus, it has a shallow color range, which can pose difficulties with some scenes that have intense colors. Chromira prints are made using an LED light source, and then processed in RA-4 chemistry on Fujicolor Crystal Archive professional photographic paper.

The color inkjet print is made using Epson 11880 Ultrachrome K3 inks on Epson professional luster photo paper. The paper is less reflective than glossy paper with a slight texture. This option has a color gamut of 16 bit. This translates into a wider color gamut than Chromira and prints with great color tonalities. My experience is that the Epson inks aren't as rich as Chromira. However, they have a much wider gamut of colors and tonalities in the photograph. Additionally, Epson prints tend to be slightly sharper than Chromira prints. Both methods produce outstanding prints.

Black and white inkjet prints are made using Epson 118800 K3VM Matte Black on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper. Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308 is 100% cotton rag which allows prints to look like platinum, palladium, or watercolor print processes. Prints on these fine art papers typically have a softer and quieter feel. Blacks are generally muted slightly, but mid and high values are very crisp and defined. Much of the muted effect comes from the non-reflective qualities of the paper itself. This process produces stunning depth, detail, and subtlety.

It is highly recommended that you frame the picture (with UV protectant glass) as soon as possible to protect it from environmental variables and hang it out of direct sunlight.
